Silas-b1892 was born in Ireland's Eye, married Elizabeth (Lizzie) King (1886-1964) of Deer Harbour in December 1914, and was a teacher from 1913 to 1942 as well as a church lay reader, Sunday school superintendent and organist<ref name=Foot21/>. Silas and Lizzie initially lived in Deer Harbour, then moved to Thoroughfare where Silas spent most of his career, then to St. John's, and finally to Deer Lake where he passed away in 1952 and is buried.
